Flipgrid for Stop Animation Videos

I’ve struggled with how to use Flipgrid with my students as fifth graders can be notorious for finding ways to get themselves in trouble. The best use of Flipgrid so far has been for students to share their stop animation videos. A lot of these videos have gotten many, many views by other students (don’t worry, they can’t see how many views they have gotten) because they are eager to get to that station.

Stop animation video made by two of my students… you can tell we are still getting the basics here, but these kids could become animators one day.

We have been using Koma Koma to make our stop animation videos, but I’m going to be doing a full fledged tutorial post one of these days. Koma Koma is one of the best and easiest stop animation apps that I have found and I can’t stop singing its praises. I’m so happy that Flipgrid has become a way for my students to share their work that I previously wouldn’t have know what to do with. Plus with it being on the web my students are not using space on their iPads.

I have had several of my students ask about getting Koma Koma installed on their iPads since they want to make stop animation videos at home. If they keep asking I might have to inquire about having Koma Koma put in self service for my kids who want it. I’ve been really pleased with some of the stuff they have put out so far.
