FALLING ACORNS, MIGHTY OAKS

Grammy: You bought a pimento cheese sandwich?

You know you are doing potato chips right when they are cooked in peanut oil.

One of my favorite things to do in life is make everyone a little crazy, particularly my Grammy.  Today, I got her bent out of shape because I told her that I went out to lunch with my coworker, Alexis, and I got a pimento cheese sandwich.  I was walking home from work when I was talking on the phone with her.  I’m almost certain that a passerby could have heard her yell, “You bought a pimento cheese sandwich?!?”

Yes, Grammy, yes I did.

It was pimento cheese like she would have made, not that crap you get in the store.  It was delicious and I would even venture to say that for the quality of the ingredients and the tastiness, it was CHEAP.

Stacks, the restaurant Alexis and I visited inside the American Hotel,  is so new that they are not even on Yelp yet.  I’m trail blazing here!

While I enjoyed my chips and pimento cheese, Alexis has a turkey sandwich. There’s no fake lunch meat that’s so thin you can see through it here. This is real meat and it looked really delicious.

Look at that real meat!

Untitled Alexis was kind enough to share the above photo with me, so you could have a different angle of her sandwich. Also worth noting–they have a soda fountain with Coke products available (and refills)! Untitled

At some point, this guy was likely suspicious that we were foodies who were gonna review this place based on the photos and conversation, so he brought us a piece of bread to try with a vinaigrette he makes. The owner and chef has won many awards for some of his dishes, so I can’t wait until he gets crab cakes in there and I get to try those. Yummy!

For a pimento cheese sandwich (and more) that will make your Grammy mad, check out Stacks, located in the American Hotel at 125 S Augusta St #4100, Staunton, VA 24401.

PS–I promise I won’t just write about food. I’ve happened to eat really good the past two days.
