FALLING ACORNS, MIGHTY OAKS

Summer Staunton Trip

One of my last trips before returning to Martinsville was to my second home, Staunton. I travelled with my teacher BFF, McHenry, and we had a great time while we were gone.

I was a little over 5 feet tall at the Green Valley Book Fair.

We started by leaving on a Tuesday and we headed straight to the Green Valley Book Fair. We spent a pretty long while in there. The place is HUGE. Neither one of us had really eaten much that day so by the time we left I was on the brink of death (or so it felt). We headed on into Staunton and ate supper at Chicano Boy, which is by far one of my favorite Mexican places ever.

The next morning I headed on down to Mary Baldwin University to visit with Coach Shelton. After spending a couple of hours with her, I walked to the admissions office to visit with some of my old coworkers. I went out to lunch with two of them. When I got back, my old boss and my old “big boss” were there, so I got to talk to them for a while. It was just generally good to see everyone and I was glad that I got to go out to eat with Anthony and Daesha, especially since she was leaving for a new position.

A snail friend we saw on the way

There’s quite a few things that I didn’t manage to get done while I was there, but I did get a lot of things done. I need to write a blog post about my experiences with playing Wizards Unite in Staunton. There’s quite a few good spots there.

My favorite picture of McHenry from the weekend.

One of the things that I did manage to do was sneak away and visit my favorite little hidden waterfall. I took McHenry on quite the hike to get there and I think she questioned my judgment a few times on the way.

A trip to Staunton isn’t complete without a visit to the duck pond, which we managed before our hiking trip.

One of these swans snatched McHenry’s bag of food when she wasn’t looking.
