The Blood of Emmett Till by Timothy B. Tyson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was a great book. I read the Kindle version and I was surprised that the book was over so quickly. The book wasn’t set up so that the footnotes and index weren’t included in the percent completion. It was telling me I had only read like half of the book when I was finished and the rest was simply footnotes, index, etc.
Besides the awkward formatting, I thought the subject matter was interesting. I was familiar with the Emmett Till case, as I had learned about the lynching through my college courses. The writing style was engaging and the weaving in of Carolyn Bryant’s memories as told from her perspective as an older lady (even though as a person she disgusts me) added a layer that drew me in.
Emmett Till’s story is one that needs to be heard in this day and age.
